Top BJP leaders take part in Bihar Swabhiman Rally



All the top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders inlcuding Lal Krishna Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Sushama Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, BJP national president Nitin Gadkari participated in the Bihar Swabhiman Rally at historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna on June 13, 2010.
Addressing the rally former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader L K Advani advocated rechristening of Bihar capital Patna as Pataliputra.
"If Benaras can be renamed as Varanasi and Bombay as Mumbai, then Patna too can be renamed as Pataliputra," he said.
Patna was earlier known as Pataliputra and "I feel there is no harm in renaming it as Pataliputra", he remarked.
The BJP stalwart also suggested construction of "a Sabhyata (culture) Gate" on the banks of river Ganga on the lines of India Gate in New Delhi and Gateway of India in Mumbai.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi accused the Union government of meting out step-motherly treatment to the BJP-ruled states.
In a resolution on federal structure moved by him at the BJP National Executive Committee meeting in Patna on June 12, 2010, Modi charged the UPA government with flouting recommendations of the Sarkaria Commission on Centre-State relations.
