Bihar celebrates Independence Day






Bihar celebrated the Independence Day with great enthusiasm and fervour. Senior officials hoisted the National flag in all the district head-quarters in colourful functions on August 15, 2009.
In Patna, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unfurled the tri-colour at historic Gandhi Maidan. The Chief Minister was given guard of honour at the Independence Day parade.
The Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues witnessed the colourful and thematic tableaux taken out by the different government and semi-government departments.

In his I-Day speech Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reaffirmed his commitment to fight drought. He said his government was prepared to fight drought. He said he would not allow anybody to fall prey to starvation as sufficient food grains were available. “State machinery has geared itself up for providing relief and help to the 1.26 crore drought-hit families in Bihar”, he said.
Bihar government has so far declared 26 out of 38 districts in the state drought-hit.
