As it was the last day for the campaigning for the third phase of Bihar Assembly election, several important national and state-level leaders gathered at the state hanger of the Patna airport on October 26, 2010 to board their respective helicopters and fly out to attend different election meetings in different places of Bihar.
From top Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Singh Yadav, Congress Bihar unit president Mahboob Ali Kaiser, NCP leader Tariq Anwar, BJP leaders Shahnawaz Hussain, Rajiv Pratap Rudi, BJP Bihar unit president Dr CP Thakur, JD (U) national president Sharad Yadav, LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad, former Indian Prime Minister and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda and JD (S) Bihar state president Dadan Yadav alias Dadan Pehalwan were seen at Patna airport on October 26, 2010.

Meanwhile, campaigning came to end in the 48 Assembly constituencies of Bihar on October 26, 2010 for the third phase of polling on October 28, 2010.

The ruling NDA and the RJD-LJP combine are locked in a neck-and-neck fight in the constituencies of East Champaran, West Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Saran and Vaishali districts.

An electorate of 1.03 crore, including 47.56 lakh women, will decide the fate of 787 candidates prominent among them being former chief minister Rabri Devi.

Rahul Gandhi in Manjhi

Girl student commits suicide in Patna

A MBA first-year student committed suicide by hanging herself at her Patrakar Nagar colony residence in Patna on October 25, 2010.

Police said the girl, identified as Arya Kumari (21), committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan. A suicide note had been found from her room in which she has explained the cause behind taking the extreme step, police added.

Acting on the basis of the suicide note, police have registered a case against five youths for provoking her to claim her own life.

Second phase of Bihar polls witnesses 52 per cent turnout












About 52 per cent of the 98.44 lakh electorate cast their votes in 45 Assembly constituencies in Bihar in the second phase of elections on October 24, 2010. A few stray incidents of violence were reported from some assembly segments in the poll which by and large passed off peacefully.

A total of 623 candidates, including 46 women, were in fray in the 45 constituencies spread over six districts which are East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur.
