An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna student Yalavarti Sweeya (22) allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of Sri Dev apartment, a four-storied transit hostel for girls in New Patliputra Colony in Patna on September 1, 2011. Sweeya was a student of computer science third year. It is learnt that the girl had been suffering from depression and was on anti-depressant drugs for some time.
