Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurates Bihar Diwas celebrations



Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated Bihar Diwas celebration function at historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna on March 22, 2010.
Modern State of Bihar was carved out of Bengal Presidency on March 22, 1912. To commemorate this historical event and promote a sense of pride and belongingness among the people, Bihar government has decided to celebrate the foundation day on 22nd March as “Bihar Diwas” every year.
Gala functions have been organised starting right from the panchayat levels to State level in Patna to celebrate the occasion. It is for the first time in 98 years, the state government is hosting the celebrations.
Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Minister for HRD Hari Narayan Singh, Minister for Energy Ramashray Prasad Singh, Minister for Industries Vijendra Prasad Yadav and Agriculture Minister Renu Kushwaha also addressed the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar urged the people to cooperate and support the government in achieving 15 per cent growth rate.
"Don't believe in castes... It divides the society and leads to destruction. If Bihar develops, the country will progress," he said at a three-day Bihar Diwas functions which began today to observed the state's foundation day.
"We have made concerted efforts for refurbishing the image of Bihar and now we can claim that we succeeded a lot in doing so... Now, claiming to be a Bihari has become a matter of pride. Earlier, people used to hesitate to do so," he said enumerating the achievements made by his government, specially the cycle scheme for schoolgoing girls and boys during the past over four years.
The function organised at the historic Gandhi Maidan presented the rich culture and tradition of the state and its religious harmony.
