Bihar Utsav begins in New Delhi



New Delhi: Modern State of Bihar was carved out of Bengal Presidency on 22 March 1912. To commemorate this historical event and promote a sense of pride and belongingness among the people, government has decided to celebrate the foundation day on 22nd March as “Bihar Divas” every year.

Gala functions would be held, starting right from the panchayat levels to state level in Patna and it is going to make a mark even at the national level in New Delhi. For the first time, Government is organizing handloom and handicrafts exhibition cum fair from March 22, 2010 to April 05, 2010 at Hall No. 15 Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This Exhibition would also showcase Bihar’s historical and cultural heritage.

The Industry Department, Govt. of Bihar has been given the charge for this, while BIADA shall be hosting the event. In addition to depicting great cultural and historical heritage of Bihar, the great development strides that Bihar is taking in the current scenario, will also are adequately presented.

For the attraction of the coming visitor, there are around 40 stalls of handloom and handicrafts. Bhagalpuri skill, Mithila painting, Siki products, Stone made elephant of Bhbhua Stone, Jewelry from ship of Mahesi, Motihari Terrocota products, Jute products like Jute Jewelry, Tikuli art, Nepura silk of Nalanda and famous handloom bed sheets of Biharsharif, are some of the great attractions at this festival.

Authentic Bihari cuisine will also be served in the fair. Hotel Maurya, Patna has been assigned to this job. On this occasion Department of Art and Cultural will organized the cultural festivities. In addition to daily program at the hall, a special cultural event will be held on March 26 at Hansh Dhwani Theater of Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, where Padamshree Sharda Sinha the famous singer of Bihar, Propulary known as Bihar Kokila, will perform.
