Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi inaugurated Kisan Mela (Farmers Fair) in Patna on May 24, 2010. Bihar Agriculture Minister Renu Kumari was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi said Bihar government had decided to charge 4 per cent interest instead of 7 per cent from farmers on agriculture loans. The scheme had come into effect from April 1, 2010.

Three get Shrawan Kumar Awards
Mahavir Sthan Trust Board felicitated three persons with Shrawan Kumar Awards at a function in Patna on May 24, 2010. Kiran Devi of Bhagalpur got the second prize of Rs 50,000 while Sunil Upadhyaya and Pankaj Kumar jointly received the third prizes of Rs 25, 000 each. No one was selected for the first prize of Rs 1 lakh. Six others got inspiration awards.

Journalists and non-journalists stage dharna in Patna
Journalists and non-journalists staged a day-long dharna in Patna on May 24, 2010 demanding extension of the term of the existing wageboard and opposed any move to constitute a tribunal.
Bihar Working Journalist Union (BWJU) General Secretary Arun Kumar said the government should extend the term of Majithia wageboard to complete its pending works and any move to constitute a tribunal would be opposed tooth and nail.
Later, a four member delegation, led by Kumar, met Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar and submitted a memorandum requesting him to use his good office in ensuring that the wageboard got the extension.
The dharna was initiated by the Confederation of Newspapers and News Agencies Employees Organisations.

RJD protests 'undeclared censorship on the media'
RJD leaders staged a day-long dharna in Patna on May 20, 2010 in protest against "undeclared censorship on the media".
Later, a RJD delegation urged Bihar governor Debanand Konwar to direct the state government to lift,what they described as, "undeclared censorship on the media".
A six-member delegation of RJD led by its state president Abdul Bari Siddiqui and deputy leader in the state assembly Shakeel Ahmed Khan called on Konwar at Raj Bhavan.
Ttalking to reporters, Khan said it was unfortunate that the Nitish Kumar government had stopped giving advertisements to newspapers thrice during the past over four years.

'Journalist made captive by principal'
Students blocked Ashok Rajpath and mobbed Patna University Office in protest against the alleged assult on a TV journalist, Irfan (top in pix) by BN College Principal Raj Kishore Prasad in Patna on May 20, 2010. It was alleged that the TV scribe was also made captive for hours by the Principal, who in turn alleged that journalists had assulted him.
