Bihar to Get Women’s University; From Vice-Chancellor to Students, All Will Be Women

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on August 27, 2026 inaugurated a programme organised by the Rural Development Department at the Bapu Auditorium of the Samrat Ashok Convention Centre here, based on the themes ‘Developed India–Prosperous Bihar’ and ‘Respect for Sisters, Identity of the Government’.

Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, the Chief Minister launched the ‘Prosperous Women–Prosperous Bihar’ campaign, describing it as a gift of self-reliance for the women of Bihar.

During the programme, Choudhary transferred ₹600 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the bank accounts of five lakh women beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme. He also distributed loans from the JEEViKA fund to 10,000 beneficiaries.

He also inaugurated work for the construction of 112 rural haats under the Developed India–G Ram G Yojana.

In the presence of the Chief Minister, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya and the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department to promote de-addiction and social awareness.

The Chief Minister also released booklets related to the ‘Prosperous Women–Prosperous Bihar’ campaign and the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Choudhary said a women’s university would be established in Bihar, where all officials and employees, from the top level to the bottom, would be women. “From the Vice-Chancellor to professors, staff and students, everyone will be women,” he said.

He said Bihar would prosper only when its women became prosperous, which in turn would contribute to India becoming a developed nation. Extending his greetings and best wishes to all the women of Bihar on Raksha Bandhan, he said the state government was continuously working to make women self-reliant and economically empowered.

The government has set a target of identifying 10 lakh Jeevika Didis and installing solar panels at their homes by March 31.

The Chief Minister said that following requests made by women during the Women’s Dialogue held in 2024-25, 125 units of free electricity were being provided to all domestic consumers in Bihar, irrespective of their economic status. The state government is providing electricity subsidies of around ₹23,000 crore to consumers.
