Iron gate of Hartlai More removed

Patna, April 21, 2017: Patna district administration finally removed the iron barricade and gate from the Hartali More on Bailey Road on Friday.

The gate and barricade which were installed in 1992 to stop the agitators from going ahead towards state secretariat were removed from the place through an intensive round the clock work that began on Thursday night. By Friday noon, the iron grills and the huge 120 feet long gate were eliminated from the road.

Earlier, the east side segment of the gate on the two sides of the Bailey Road was slotted for dharna, agitations and protest meetings. But a few years ago the district administration had shifted the venue to R Block and after that the agitation venue was shifted to Gardanibagh.

The removal of gate will help smooth traffic flow on the Bailey Road and allow the government to carry on the widening work of the Bailey Road. The iron gate was a danger zone for vehicular traffic especially for bike riders in the night and some accidents had also happened there in the past.

On April 19, Patna district magistrate Sanjay Kumar, Traffic SP PK Das and other senior officials visited the spot and asked the building construction department’s executive engineer to dismantle the gate.

Now, this segment of the Bailey Road will soon become three-lane pathways on both the sides and ease the traffic pressure.
