Bihar begins teacher transfer process under 2026 transfer rules

Patna: The Bihar government has begun the process of posting and transferring teachers under the Bihar State Teacher Transfer Rules 2026. Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced the move at a press conference, saying the objective was to ensure the availability of teachers in schools where they are needed most.

According to the Education Department, teachers applying for transfer can select a minimum of one and a maximum of 30 schools as their preferred options. Their transfer will be made to a school included in the list of options they have selected. The department has made it clear that teachers will not be transferred to any school outside their chosen options.

The online portal for transfers opened on July 29. During the first two days, 14,796 surplus teachers submitted their applications online. Another 7,795 teachers completed their applications and saved them, but have not yet submitted them finally.

The Education Minister said that a total of 22,591 surplus teachers had joined the transfer process within just two days. This figure includes both teachers who have submitted their applications and those who have only saved them.

Teachers have also shown considerable interest in mutual transfers. Over the past two days, 2,142 teachers have applied for mutual transfer.
