Junior doctors to strike work on April 24


Patna: Junior doctors of Bihar will go on 24 hours token strike on Monday (April 24) in protest against the attacks on doctors at SKMCH (Muzaffarpur) following death of a patient.

In a meeting held on Saturday, Junior Doctors Association (JDA) has demanded security arrangements in all medical college hospitals within 24 hours.

They also demanded action against the culprits.  A JDA spokesman said they would not disturb emergency service during strike but they would remain abstain from duty in out patients department (OPD) and wards.

“If the government fails to provide proper security arrangements for doctors and hospitals within 48 hours, they will go on indefinite strike”, he said.

Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association (IMA-Bihar) office-bearers reached Muzaffarpur to take the stock of the situation.  The delegation also prepared a memorandum of demands for raising it before the government and seeks its implementation within a week.

The IMA has also decided to meet chief minister Nitish Kumar on the increasing incidents of assault on doctors.

Junior doctors of Bihar call off strike



Junior doctors of all the medical colleges of Bihar, who went on indefinite strike from the midnight of January 30, 2011, called off their strike after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured them of adequate security in Patna on February 4, 2011. The doctors were demanding arrest of an RJD MLA from Belganj constituency Surendra Yadav, whose bodyguards had fired at them in a Gaya hospital.

A delegation of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) Junior Doctors Association led by its secretary D Kumar called on the chief minister this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the senior RJD MLA Surendra Yadav surrendered before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gaya, RNS Pande, which remanded him in 14 days judicial custody.

After the withdrawal of strike, Patna Medical College and Hospital limped back to normalcy.

Junior doctors strike enters second day




Junior doctors strike entered the second day in the Patna Medical College and Hospital in Patna on February 1, 2011. Indoor patients were the most harried lot as they left the hospital to seek treatment in private nursing homes. Hospital wards wore a deserted look and police kept tight vigil to prevent any untoward incidents.

NMCH doctors join the strike



Doctors of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) joined the state-wide junior doctors' strike in Patna on February 1, 2011. Junior doctors of all medical colleges of Bihar went on indefinite strike from January 30, night following a scuffle with Belaganj MLA Surendra Yadav. Three junior doctors were injured when MLAs bodyguard opened fire on them.

Junior doctors go on strike in all medical colleges of Bihar




Junior Doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) went on lightning strike from midnight of January 30, 2011 in protest against the incident of firing on junior doctors of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital by the bodyguard of RJD MLA from Belaganj Dr Surebdra Prasad Yadav. Three medicos were injured in the incident. Following the incident, junior doctors of ANMMCH, PMCH and other medical colleges of Bihar went on strike demanding arrest of the MLA and his bodyguard.
Following the strike, PMCH wore a deserted look causing hardship to indoor patients. Security, however, was put on high alert on the campus.
