4 injured in PU hostels inmates clash

PATNA: Four students were injured when two groups of students belonging to Minto and Iqbal Hostels of the Patna College engaged in clash over the allotment of hostel rooms on the Patna University campus here on Saturday.

Students hurled crude bombs and used iron rods and lathis in the clash Police recovered one live bomb from the place of the incident. Police have also lodged FIR against six persons in this connection.   

Sources said the altercation between the inmates of Minto and Iqbal Hostels was going on for the last three days over a sitting arrangement in the geography department.

Injured students were sent to hospital for medical attention.

PU History Department organises special lecture

PATNA: Department of History (Patna University) organised a special lecture on "Colonialism, Nationalism and Feminism: Aspects of Indian Feminist Historiography" at Darbhanga House on Friday. The special lecture was organised to commemorate the centenary year celebrations of the university. Professor Ratneshwar Mishra, former head of department of Mithila University delivered the lecture.

Professor Rashbihari Singh is new vice chancellor of Patna University

Patna: Four teachers of the Patna University got new assignments as two of them have been elevated as vice chancellor while the other two have been promoted as pro vice chancellor.

According to a Governor House notification on Saturday, professor Rasbihari Singh will be the new vice chancellor of the Patna University while professor Ravindra Kumar Sinha aka Dolphin Man will be the vice chancellor of Nalanda Open University.

Magadh Mahila College principal and former dean of the Patna University Dolly Sinha  has been nominated as pro vice chancellor of the Patna University while Dr Kayranand Paswan has been chosen as pro vice chancellor of Magadh University.

This is for the first time four teachers of Patna University have been elevated as vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor at a time.

Professor Sarva Narayan Jha has been made vice chancellor of Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University, Darbhanga.

Professor Chandeshwar Prasad Singh will be the pro vice chancellor of the Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University.

Other newly nominated pro vice chancellors are Ram Jatan Prasad (Tilka Majhi University, Bhagalpur, professor Raj Kumar Mandal (BRA Bihar University, Muzaffarpur), Dr Jay Gopal (LN Mithila University, Darbhanga), professor Syed Md Rafique Azad (MMH Arabic and Persian University, Patna) and Dr Madan Mohan Goyal (Veer Kunwar Singh University, Ara).

Patna University celebrates centenary year

Patna, April 20, 2017: Former Patna University vice chancellor Dr LN Ram said students and teachers are the two important aspects of university rather than infrastructure.

Professor Srivastava was addressing the centenary year celebration function of the Patna University at Wheeler Senate Hall on Thursday.

He said for the past several years Patna University has been struggling with the shortage of teachers and moreover 60 to 70 teachers are set to retire this year. "In this condition, the things will remain with us are heritage building, furniture.and the students who took admission with a dream of getting quality education in this seat of learning", he said.

"In some departments only two teachers are working in place of 20 to 30 teachers. The university is depending on the grants from government while the institution should become self dependent", he said.

Another former vice chancellor Dr Sudipto Adhikari said the Patna University has a glorious history and we should work together to make it move forward.

Earlier, Patna University acting vice chancellor Dr Sudhir Kumar Srivastava inaugurated the function.

Students of Magadh Mahila College and Women's Training College presented an attractive cultural programme.

Dr Abhay Kumar is the new general secretary of PUTA

Patna, April 12, 2017: Patna University Teachers Association election has turned to be a one-sided affair as the group led by Randhir has captured all the posts at stake here on Wednesday.

Dr Randhir was declared winner for the post of president without any contest and so were Dr Amita Jaiswal and Irshad Ali for joint secretaries and Dr Dinesh Prasad Kamal for the post of treasurer.

The Wednesday’s poll outcome saw Shefali Roy of Patna Women’s College (Political Science Department) bagging one of the posts of vice-president. Dr MP Trivdei also won one slot of vice president finishing second in the battle.

Chemistry teacher of Science College Dr Abhay Kumar became the new general secretary of the association getting 166 votes in his favour. His nearest rival Dr Shiv Sagar Prasad polled 93 votes.
