Patna, March 24, 2017: Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the electricity tariff from April 1 next by an average 55 per cent. The tariff has been almost doubled in the below 100 units consumption slab for domestic consumers who now will have to pay Rs 5.75 per unit against Rs 3 earlier.
For 101 to 200 unit, consumers will have to pay Rs 6.50 per unit while from 201 to 300 units slabs, one will have to pay Rs 7.25 per unit. For above 300 units, the rate is Rs 8.00 per unit.
It's learnt that the state government has decided to give subsidy of 28 per cent to the consumers on new rates.

Bihar Chamber of Commerce (BCC) sought Bihar Chief Minister intervention on the fuel surcharge being levied by the Bihar State Electricity Board. BCC president OP Sah and other members were talking to reporters in Patna on September 28, 2011. They alleged that the National Thermal Power Corporation had been supplying electricity to Bihar on irrational rates.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a meeting with top officials of NTPC in Patna on December 6, 2010. The meeting discussed setting up new power generation units in Bihar. 
Bihar Energy Minister Ramashray Prasad Singh, principal secretary (Energy), Ravikant and other senior Bihar State Electricity Board officials reviewed the presentation made by two Bangalore-based entrepreneurs for setting up a 30-MW power plant from rice husk at Bodh Gaya.
