Horrid time for Railway passengers

Anxious relatives and passengers waited at the enquiry counter of the Patna junction railway station in Patna on January 2, 2010 to know about the list of casualty and other informations following a rail accident near Etawah.

Sitamarhi-bound Lichchavi Express collided with Patna-bound Magadh Express near Sarai Bhupat railway station of the Northern Railway. The day saw three accidents in the Delhi-Howrah route that left at least 10 people dead and 70 others injured.

Robbers gang busted

Government Railway Police (GRP), Patna on September 16, 2009 busted a gang that robbed railway passengers after administering drug in their food items. Police arrested three members of the gang.

Irate students torch four AC coaches of Shramjeevi Express train

A group of irate students on August 18 set four air-conditioned bogies of the New Delhi-Rajgir Shramjeevi Express afire at the Bihta Railway station under Patna-Buxar section of the East Central Railway. The leaping flame also caught two sleeper coaches of the Patna-Yeshwantpur (Bangalore), Sanghamitra Express which arrived at the same time in the next platform.

Students resorted to violence after Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel beat some of them up in the train during a ticket checking drive. A group, students, had boarded the train at Ara station. They were spotted by RPF personnel and forced out of the coaches at Bihta station resulting into a violence clash between police and students. Train services in the Patna-Mugalsarai section of EC Railway remained paralysed for more than four hours.

Angry mobs torch two trains at Khusropur

Angry over withdrawal of stoppage of the Rajgir-New Delhi Shramajivi Express at Khusropur station , about 32 kms from Patna, thousands of villagers torched two trains and uprooted tracks under Danapur division of the East Central Railway on June 1, 2009. Irate villagers stormed the station building and ransacked the station master chamber and other key points for train movements. The mob set on fire the 3226 down Danapur-Jainagar Intercity Express and the 543 Rajgir-Danapur Passenger trains at Baikatpur village near Khusropur station.

According to reports four general chair car coaches and an air-conditioned chair car compartment of Danapur-Jainagar Intercity express were burnt. The mob also set afire a generator bogie of the Rajgir-Danapur passenger train, which arrived there a short while after the intercity reached Khusropur.
The agitators also uprooted several metres of railway track. The mob also destroyed several electronic and other kinds of railway equipment, the signal system and the ticket booking counter. Fire tenders fought for hours to douse the flames.

Pantry car of Patna-bound Rajdhani Express catches fire

A major accident was averted in the wee hours of Saturday morning, when the Patna-bound Rajdhani Express came to a sudden halt after pantry car of the train caught fire near Kuchman station of the Mughalsarai-Dildarnagar section of East Central Railway. The incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. due to a short circuit in the pantry car. The pantry coach has been completely burnt. However, passengers have escaped unharmed.
