Bihar CM directs Education Department to strengthen quality of government schools

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary today chaired a review meeting of the Education Department at the ‘Sankalp’ conference hall in Lok Seva Awas on August 20, 2026 and directed officials to further strengthen the quality of education in the state and provide students in government schools with a better academic environment.

The Chief Minister directed that a strong foundation be laid for the bright future of students in Bihar’s government schools through modern facilities, quality teaching and improved academic outcomes. He also stressed the need to give special attention to the all-round development of students alongside quality education.

During the meeting, Education Department Secretary Rajiv Roushan gave a detailed presentation on the academic system and facilities available at the model schools (Saraswati Vidya Niketan) operating across the state. Dr Tyagrajan S.M., Chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board, provided detailed information about e-learning and the 24x7 interactive digital learning platform.

The Chief Minister said the model schools (Saraswati Vidya Niketan) operating in the state should be managed better and more effectively, with distinctive arrangements that set them apart from other institutions. He directed that regular reviews and inspections be conducted to monitor academic arrangements, teacher availability, student attendance and the quality of teaching and learning in the model schools.

Officials were instructed to effectively implement the ‘One Officer, One Model School’ system by establishing a direct link with schools so that their problems could be resolved within a stipulated time. Surprise inspections of schools should also be ensured. Reporting on academic activities and day-to-day work at schools should be carried out regularly at both headquarters and district levels.

The Chief Minister said the quality of schools is determined not merely by basic infrastructure but also by a better teaching system and the all-round development of students. He directed that parent-teacher meetings be organised every three months in model schools so that parents and teachers could maintain regular communication about students’ academic progress and their needs.

He also stressed the need to increase interaction with former students of the model schools. The officials were directed to develop a system of regular meetings and mentoring with alumni so that current students could benefit from their achievements and experiences.
