Bihar Gets Target of 11.18 Lakh Houses Under PMAY-G

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on August 20, 2026 formally inaugurated a programme organised by the Rural Development Department at Bapu Sabhagar in the Samrat Ashok Convention Centre complex. The event marked the housewarming of 2.35 lakh houses completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) during the financial year 2026-27, the distribution of house keys to beneficiaries, and the handing over of sanction letters to newly selected beneficiaries. The programme also highlighted Bihar’s new target allocated by the Central Government under the scheme.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the programme by lighting a ceremonial lamp and offering water to plants. A short film highlighting the achievements, progress and key initiatives under PMAY-G was also screened.

The Chief Minister distributed house keys to beneficiaries who had completed their homes under the scheme and sanction letters to newly selected beneficiaries. Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over to the Chief Minister the letter detailing the new PMAY-G target allocated to Bihar by the Central Government.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “Today is a day of pride and honour for Bihar.” He said the programme to provide pucca houses to poor families would help take the state forward.

He said that under the Indira Awas Yojana, only 30 lakh pucca houses were built for poor families in Bihar between 1986 and 2014. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an allocation has been made for the construction of 50 lakh pucca houses for poor families in Bihar between 2014 and 2026.

The Chief Minister said that according to the 2018 survey, 19 lakh families had still been deprived of pucca houses. With the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, these families were also being brought under the PMAY-G scheme.

Under the scheme, the Bihar Government contributes 40 per cent of the financial assistance for the construction of pucca houses. Choudhary said the Union Rural Development Minister had set a target of constructing 11,18,937 pucca houses in Bihar under PMAY-G during 2026-27. For this, Bihar would receive assistance of Rs 13,427 crore from the Central Government. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

He said the families receiving house keys under PMAY-G would see their dreams reach new heights with a roof over their heads. A home not only provides security and dignity but also boosts confidence. The benefits of development should reach every person in need.

The Chief Minister said every family should have its own pucca house. Only then, he said, would India become a leading and developed nation and Bihar prosper.
