Bihar Government Finance Department secretary B P Sharma addressed a press conference on the economic survey report 2009-10 in Patna on March 4, 2010.
Earlier, the report was presented in the Bihar Assembly by Health minister Nand Kishore Yadav in the absence of Finance minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
The report stated that Bihar economy was now poised on steady growth because of a number of crucial steps taken in the recent past by the state government.
"With the continuation of the present momentum of growth, Bihar will be able to achieve its target under the eleventh plan period (2007-12)," the economic survey stated.
The survey report said that the total GSDP of the state at 1999 prices was Rs 98392.60 crore in 2008-09, yielding a per capita income of Rs 10,415.
At current prices, the GSDP for Bihar in 2008-09 was estimated to be Rs 131873.20 crore, yielding a per capita income of Rs 13,959.
During the first five years since 1999-2000, Bihar's economy had grown at and anual rate of 3.50 per cent. Thereafter the economy grew at an annual rate of 11.35 per cent between 2004-2005 and 2008-09.
Three major sectors leading this high growth were - construction (35.80 per cent), communication (17.68 per cent) and trade, hotel and restaurants (17.71 per cent, the report remarked.
