Bank Employees Observe Nationwide Strike Over Five-Day Work Week Demand

Patna: Bank employees and officers across different branches of nationalised banks across Patna joined the nationwide strike on Friday, September 11, 2026, disrupting branch operations at public sector banks. The strike was called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of seven bank unions representing approximately nine lakh employees and officers.

The strike affected branch-level services including cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque clearing and routine administrative tasks. Digital banking channels such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs continued to function normally. As the strike fell on the second Saturday and Sunday, branch services remained unavailable for three consecutive days in most parts of the country.

JD(U) Leader Sanjay Jha Opposes Renewal of Ganga Water Treaty with Bangladesh, Citing Bihar's Water Loss

Patna: Janata Dal (United) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha on September 10, 2026 urged the Centre not to renew the Ganga water-sharing treaty with Bangladesh when it expires in December, alleging that Bihar's share of water has been stolen for the last three decades.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Patna after the completion of the first phase of the Nitish Samvad Yatra, Jha said the issue was important for Bihar and alleged that the state had been denied a substantial share of its water.

"This issue is very important for the state. While states in India fight pitched battles over water-sharing issues among themselves, Bihar's water has been stolen for 30 years and transferred to Bangladesh," Jha said.

The Ganga water-sharing treaty, signed between India and Bangladesh on December 12, 1996, is a 30-year agreement governing the sharing of dry-season water flows at the Farakka Barrage. It expires on December 12, 2026.

Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary Releases ₹1,233.87 Crore Pension Aid to 10.56 Lakh Beneficiaries

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on September 10, 2026 transferred ₹1,233.87 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the bank accounts of 10.568 lakh beneficiaries under the state’s social security pension scheme for August 2026 in Munger. Each beneficiary received a monthly pension of ₹1,100. A total of 98,896 new beneficiaries were also brought under the scheme.

The Chief Minister joined the program organized at Gangta Mor in Haveli Kharagpur, Munger, through video conferencing. During the event, he also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone remotely for the widening and strengthening of National Highway-333 from kilometer 28.340 (Gangta) to kilometer 38.340 (Kohbarwa Mor).

Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary Felicitates 168 Bihar Board Toppers in Patna

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary felicitates meritorious students who secured top positions in the 2026 Intermediate and Matriculation annual examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) at Lok Sevak Awas in Patna on September 9, 2026. A total of 168 students were honoured with medals, certificates and cash awards. The Chief Minister also hosted the students for lunch after the ceremony.

Students securing first, second and third positions in both examinations received cash prizes of ₹2 lakh, ₹1.5 lakh and ₹1 lakh, respectively. Intermediate students ranked fourth and fifth received ₹30,000 each, while Matriculation students securing fourth to tenth positions received ₹20,000 each. All 168 awardees were also given ₹51,000 each to purchase a laptop.
