Bank Employees Observe Nationwide Strike Over Five-Day Work Week Demand

Patna: Bank employees and officers across different branches of nationalised banks across Patna joined the nationwide strike on Friday, September 11, 2026, disrupting branch operations at public sector banks. The strike was called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of seven bank unions representing approximately nine lakh employees and officers.

The strike affected branch-level services including cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque clearing and routine administrative tasks. Digital banking channels such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs continued to function normally. As the strike fell on the second Saturday and Sunday, branch services remained unavailable for three consecutive days in most parts of the country.
