Ensuring smooth, sound drainage system is top priority, says Patna commissioner

Patna, June 15, 2022:

Patna division commissioner Kumar Ravi has said that there is an easy, smooth and strong system of drainage in the city. The general public will not face any problem in case of excessive rain. He was inspecting various sump houses and drains of the city today

Ravi said that according to the information given by the meteorological department, the monsoon has arrived in our state. There is a possibility of rain in all the districts of Bihar in the coming days. Heavy rain warnings have been issued in many states. He said that the entire administrative system is alert, active and ready to deal with any situation.

He said that according to the ‘set standards’ all the preparations have been done by the administration. The work of cleaning the major drains and ancillary drains has been completed. Adequate number of diesel and electric operated pumps, DG sets etc. have been arranged in all the sump houses.

Alternative arrangements have also been made by the administration to deal with special situation. The executive agencies have been directed to be ready and proactive. For speedy disposal of water-logging, a control room has been set up at the Patna Municipal Corporation headquarters. Along with this, helpline number and toll-free number have also been issued. Toll-free number has also been issued by BUDCO for providing information related to Drainage Pumping Station and Sump House. A quick response team has been constituted by the administration, he said. ” There is no need for the general public to worry,” he said.

While inspecting the temporary sump house, Bakri Bazar, near Saidpur, it was found that the drain located there is completely blocked and consequently the water flow was blocked. The commissioner directed the managing director, Budco to take action against the assistant Engineer of BUDCO. He said that any kind of laxity in the discharge of duty will not be tolerated.

The commissioner directed the district magistrate to inspect the sump houses and drains regularly so that smooth drainage system is ensured. He asked the managing director, BUDCO to keep a constant watch on the operation of the drainage pumping station. He also asked the municipal commissioner to take special care on the cleanliness of the drains. He directed to keep a special watch on sensitive places from the point of view of water logging.

Patna district magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, managing director of BUCO Dharmendra Singh, Patna Municipal cmmissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, secretary to the commissioner SM Kaiser Sultan, regional development officer Sarv Narayan Yadav, deputy director IPRD Lokesh Kumar Jha, executive Engineer BUDCO,  Arvind Kishore and others were also present.
