Bihar Congress to Launch Statewide Protests Demanding Chief Election Commissioner’s Resignation

Patna; The Bihar Congress will launch a series of state-wide protests until November demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The decision was announced at an important review meeting of state Congress office-bearers and district Congress committee presidents held at the Pradesh Congress headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram, in Patna on Friday (October 9, 2026).

The meeting was attended by Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru and state Congress president Rajesh Ram, who chaired the proceedings. Discussions focused on strengthening the party organisation, its activities, public outreach campaigns and the strategy for the phased agitation demanding the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.

During the meeting, Krishna Allavaru reviewed organisational activities with state office-bearers and district presidents. He stressed the need to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and increase its presence from districts to blocks and panchayats. He also emphasised effective implementation of Congress programmes, better coordination among different levels of the organisation, active participation by party workers and continuous engagement with the public.

Preparations for the forthcoming agitation and the role of the party organisation in making it successful were also discussed.

Addressing the meeting, Rajesh Ram said the Bihar Congress would conduct a series of state-wide protests in phases until November to demand Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Outlining the protest schedule, he said the second phase would run from 10 to 20 October, with block-level marches and public outreach campaigns organised across the state. Congress workers will reach out to people at the block level, raise issues concerning voters’ rights and encourage more people to join the campaign.

From 25 October to 25 November, the party will organise ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ (Save the Vote, Save the Nation) chaupals at district, block and village levels. People who have complained that their names have been deleted from electoral rolls will also be invited to participate.

Congress workers will interact with affected voters, listen to their grievances and highlight issues relating to electoral rolls.

Rajesh Ram further announced that the fourth phase of the agitation would feature a ‘Delhi Chalo’ programme on Constitution Day. Thousands of Congress leaders and workers from Bihar would travel to Delhi to raise questions concerning voters’ rights and democratic values at the national level.

The meeting was attended by treasurer Jitendra Gupta, disciplinary committee chairman Kapildev Prasad Yadav, MLAs Manoj Biswas and Surendra Kushwaha, along with all district Congress presidents and state office-bearers.
