Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi asked the banking institutions to show leadership in reaching out to drought-hit farmers of the state with loans. Modi held a meeting with bankers in Patna on August 24, 2010.
He said banks had been found wanting in disbursal of loans, payment of crop insurance and distribution of Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) to farmers in drought-hit Bihar.
He asked banking institutions to organise camps in the state by September 9 to ensure disbursal of crop loans to needy farmers.
Banks should comply with the state government's target for distribution of 21 lakh KCCs and consumption loan up to Rs. 10,000 to the farmers, he said.
