Transporters go on indefinite strike in Bihar

Commercial vehicles including trucks and buses went off roads in Bihar on August 25, 2010 as the Bihar Motor Transport Federation (BMTF) called for an indefinite strike to press for revocation of "draconian" provisions under the 'Damage to Property Act', 1984.

The federation alleged that most of the provisions that were being implemented in Bihar linking it to the Motor Vehicles Act were draconian in nature making transporters, drivers and their commercial vehicles liable for punishment with imprisonment of up to five years.
