Bihar celebrates 64th Independence Day










Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hoisted the national flag at historic Gandhi Maidan on the occasion of India’s 64th Independence Day in Patna on August 15, 2010.
Earlier the Chief Minister paid tributes to martyrs at Kargil Chowk.

Army and para military forces jawans displayed attractive march past and parade. Bihar Regimental Centre, Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Sashastra Sena Bal, Sashastra Sena Bal (women), Special Task Force, Bihar Military Police, Home Guards, NCC cadets (men and women), Bharat Scout and Guides and Fire Brigade participated in the parade. Captain Piyush Bharadwaj of BRC took the command of the parade.

Speaking on the occasion, Nitish Kumar declared entire Bihar as drought-hit and said his government was taking various measure to provide relief to the affected farmers.

"Bihar is facing natural calamity for the fourth year in succession. While the state faced devastating floods in 2007 and 2008, drought has hit the state for the second year in succession. Despite the state facing natural calamities, Bihar is on the path of development," he said.

The government had on August 3 declared 28 out of the 38 districts in Bihar as drought hit.
