Freight equalisation policy hinders Bihar's growth, says President Mukherjee

 







Patna, March 24, 2017: President Pranab Mukherjee said that the freight equalisation policy had increased the inequality among states especially in the eastern part of the country.
Addressing the the silver jubilee function of the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) here on Friday he said Bihar and other eastern sates had lost their advantage due to the policy.
Under the policy Union Government subsidises the transportation cost of the minerals to a factory set up any where in India.
He said there is a lot of difference between potential and development of Bihar.
Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Education Minister Ashok Choudhary, economist Meghnad Desai and former Rajya Sabha member NK Singh were present on the occasion.
