International conference on organic farming begins in Patna

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a three-day international conference on organic farming in Patna on June 22, 2011. In his keynote address, Kumar said Bihar government would provide all-possible help to farmers for adopting “organic farming.”

“We have initiated works on a special programme for promoting organic farming, on which a sum of Rs 250 crore will be spent,” he said.

“Under the programme, one village in each of the 38 districts in Bihar will be identified as an organic village,” he said.

The Bihar Chief Minister termed the proposed “Seed Bill as a Black Bill,” and said the farmers would be subjected to immense suffering once the proposed legislation came into force.

Bihar Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh and Bihar Animal and Fishery Resources Minister Giriraj Singh were present on the occasion.
