Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday (September 25, 2009) laid the foundation stone of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital in Bihta about 40 kilometers from Patna. It is the first of its kind medical college and hospital in Bihar and third in the country.Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge were present at the function.
The 500-bed ESIC medical college and hospital will start its first academic session in 2013. The first batch will have 50 students.
