Patna Law College Centenary Celebrations











Chief Justice of India (CJI) KG Balakrishnan was in Patna on July 11, 2009. He was the chief guest at the Centenary Celebrations of the Patna Law College.

CJI for more courts in India
Speaking on the occasion Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan stressed upon the creation of more courts in the country in order to dispense speedy justice. The CJI said he had written a letter, not too long ago, to the Prime Minister about the problem. The PM wrote back granting his approval for the creation of 71 Special CBI courts, he added.
Justice Balakrishnan also favoured the change in law curriculums keeping in view the changing needs of the society.
In his speech, Bihar Governor Debananda Konwar said judiciary must attend to the problems of rural India and bridge the gap between India and Bharat. He asked the law students to reach out to the poor and needy.
In his brief speech, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar advocated for five-year integrated degree course in Patna Law College. He also called for revised curriculum that was suited for addressing present day problems.
He also hailed the success of fast track courts which awarded sentences in some 30000 criminal cases that had been pending for long, in last three years.
