Uproar in Bihar assembly and series of rally on Patna roads on July 24, 2009 marked the vociferous protests over the stripping of a 22-year-old girl in full public view in Exhibition Road on Thursday. The Bihar assembly on Friday witnessed uproarious scenes over the alleged stripping of a 22-year-old girl in public in Exhibition Road on Thursday with Opposition members storming into the well of the House and forcing Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary to adjourn the proceedings at least four times.
On July 23, 2009 (Thursday), the girl, a resident of Jasidih in Jharkhand, was allegedly stripped by a group of people on the busy Exhibition Road in Patna.
The issue was raised by MLAs belonging to RJD, LJP, Congress and Left parties as soon as the House assembled. They trooped into the well of the House and asked the speaker to accept an adjournment motion moved by them seeking a debate on "growing atrocities on women in Bihar".
Several protest rallies were taken out by different political parties and women’s organisations to express their protest on the growing incidents of atrocities against women.
