Mritunjay Tiwari breaks his indefinite fast

PATNA: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar Players' Association president Mritunjay Tiwari called off his fast unto death agitation on the fourth day on Tuesday after an assurance given to him by the director general Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) Arvind Pandey that he would discuss the issues in the sub-committee meeting of the general administration department.

The sub-committee will meet later in the day.

Tiwari broke his fast sipping fruit juice given to him by BSSA DG Pandey.

Tiwari was on fast unto death agitation from Saturday demanding immediate release of list of the players selected for government jobs.

About 700 players from 67 disciplines applied for government jobs referred to an advertisement last year but the general administration department has yet to announce the names of the players selected for the job.

Earlier, in 2011 and 2012, state government had provided jobs to about 150 sports persons who won medals in national and international tournaments.

The process for fresh appointment has been stalled for five years.
