Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked his party Janata Dal (United ) workers to launch a signature drive to press for special category stauts to Bihar.
Speaking at a state council meeting of the party in Patna on October 11, 2009, he said Bihar fulfilled all the requisite criteria to be declared as special state.
"A special signature drive should be launched by the party and a memorandum with over one crore signatures should be submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that special status be granted to Bihar," he said.
The meeting also announced the re-election of Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh as the state party president.
