The free internet facility to college students comes under
one of the seven resolves of Nitish Kumar led Grand Alliance government in Bihar .
The project to provide internet facility through free wi-fi
on all 319 colleges of the state was expected to complete by February this year
but electricity supply in the institutions had proved to be major hurdle in this
regard.
Now, to get rid of the power problems, Information
Technology Department has decided to install solar power system in the colleges to run Wi-Fi facility.
The department stated that 255 colleges have so far connected
with the internet network. The department will spend Rs 245 crores in next five
years in this project.
The free internet through Wi-Fi scheme will be extended
further to medical, engineering, agriculture, teachers training colleges very soon.
For this purpose, a central control room has been
constructed at Beltron Bhavan. The control room will keep close eye on
students’ activities through user threat management device (UTM). Students can
open the websites, which are permitted by the control room, in their laptops,
smart phones and tabs.
Users will get separate ID and password to connect with the Wi-Fi.
