One kidney transplant per week at IGIMS from May

Patna, April 20, 2017: Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (IGIMS) will start kidney transplant surgery at least one per week from next month. At present hospital has been transplanting such case once in a month.

IGIMS Nephrology Department head Dr Om Prakash said that earlier the hospital had to call doctors from Delhi for kidney transplant operation.

"But from next month onward, doctors of the IGIMS will do the job", he said.

He said the number of waiting list patients seeking kidney transplant had gone up sharply. "Now there are 50 patients in the waiting list", he said.

Senior surgeon and kidney transplant specialist Dr V Sheenu said the IGIMS team of doctors has been doing a good job in kidney transplant cases.


The IGIMS has recently done the 21st and 22nd transplant and both the transplant surgery was done by IGIMS team of doctors.
